Attività scientifica
Dal 2007 attività di ricerca su farmacocinetica - farmacodinamica - farmacogenetica dei farmaci antiinfettivi (antiretrovirali, antibiotici e antifungini). In questi ambiti, ha partecipazione all’ideazione e conduzione di studi indipendenti di fase II, III, IV e all’attività di elaborazione e presentazione dei progetti agli enti finanziatori.
Coordinatore dei progetti di ricerca effettuati in collaborazione con l’Ospedale di Kiremba, Burundi (fino al 2011) e con l’Infectious Diseases Institute, Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda (dal 2013 a oggi).
Coordinatore di un gruppo di ricerca sulle complicazioni neurologiche dell’infezione da HIV che fa capo alla Clinica di Malattie Infettive dell’Ospedale Amedeo di Savoia di Torino e all’Unità Operativa di Neurologia dell’Ospedale Maria Vittoria; tale gruppo include altresì il Reparto di Radiologia dell’Ospedale San Giovanni Bosco.
Docente di Malattie Infettive presso l’Università di Torino nel corso di Laurea in Medicina e Chirurgia (sede San Luigi, dall’anno accademico 2017/2018), nel Corso di Laurea in Infermieristica (dall’anno accademico 2012/2013, attualmente sede di Orbassano canali A e B e sede di Ivrea) e nella Scuola di Specialità di Malattie Infettive.
He is temporary Assistant Professor at the University of Torino (Department of Medical Sciences, Infectious Diseases); he has obtained the National Qualification for Associate (2017) and Full (2018) Professor in Infectious Diseases. He is Consultant in Infectious Diseases at the University of Torino, Torino, Italy). He obtained the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand).
He is member of the Panel of the Italian Guidelines on the Use of Antiretrovirals and Management of patients living with HIV and of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Cohort of HIV-positive patients (ICONA), of the Italian Cohort of HIV-positive Geriatric Patients (GEPPO) and of the Italian Registry of Non-tubercular Mycobacteria (IRENE). He is Associate Editor of “BMC Infectious Diseases, “Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine” and “PlosOne” Journals. Since 2016 he is member of the Governing Council of the Italian Society of Infectious Diseases (SIMIT).
He has experience as a Consulting Physician in Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine (Sudan, Thailand, Burundi); several phase II, III and IV studies in antiretroviral treatment trials. In 2014 he helped setting a collaboration with the Infectious Disease Institute, Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda with the aim of improving key features of HIV Research (pharmacogenetics and co-morbidities).
His main field of interest is the clinical pharmacology and pharmacogenetics of anti-infective agents (antiretrovirals, antibiotics, antifungals) and the central nervous system complication of HIV-infection.
