Dr. Giovanni B. Andornino is a tenured Assistant Professor of International Relations of East Asia at the Department of Cultures, Politics and Society of the University of Torino, where he heads the TOChina Centre. He is the Vice President of the Torino World Affairs Institute (T.wai), with responsibility over the Global China Programme, and former Editor of the OrizzonteCina quarterly journal. Dr. Andornino is the author of La Cina e noi. Passato, identità, prospettive [China and us. Past, identity, perspectives], Solferino 2023; editor of the volume Cina. Prospettive di un paese in trasformazione [China. The outlook of a changing country], Il Mulino 2021; co-editor with M. Marinelli of Italy’s encounters with modern China, Palgrave Macmillan 2014; and author of Dopo la muraglia. La Cina nella politica internazionale del XXI secolo [After the great wall. China in XXI century international politics], Vita e Pensiero 2008. His work features in the 2010 Routledge Handbook of Chinese International Relations (S. A recipient of an Australian Centre on China in the World grant in 2011 and the London School of Economics McKenzie Prize in 2005, Dr. Andornino has published on "Italian Political Science Review", "Global Policy", "China & World Economy", "The International Spectator", "Mediterranean Quarterly", "Mondo Cinese" , "Teoria Politica" and for the International Politics Policy Paper series of the Italian Parliament. A former Fellow of the European Institute for Chinese Studies (Paris, 2020 and 2022) and the Transatlantic Academy (Washington D.C., 2010), Dr. Andornino has held a part-time professorship at the European University Institute and has lectured in advanced training schemes, including at the former “Istituto Diplomatico” of Italy’s MFA. He is currently the Principal Investigator of PRIN project "Italy-China 2030: meeting the “upgrading China knowledge in Europe” challenge. An assessment of critical issue-areas in Sino-Italian relations and of the strategic capacity gap for responsible engagement" (2023-2025). In December 2021 he was made a Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by President Sergio Mattarella at the initiative of Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
